the channel was launched on August 1st, 1981.
Originally it was Music Television for the primary purpose to play music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, the channel now broadcasts a variety of reality and scripted television programmes. Their target audience is between the age ranges of 12-24 years old. Current examples of the programmes on this channel include Geordie Shore, Teen Mom, My Super Sweet 16 and 16 And Pregnant. Many of the characters and people involved in these programmes are teenagers or young adults, some particularly focusing on the age of 16.
MTV's influences on its audience include issues related to censorship and social activism. Censorship is language and communication that may be considered objectionable, harmful or sensitive by the government or media outlet. Social activism consists of efforts to promote social change which can take a wide range of forms such as strikes.
channel idents that use stop motion animation -
Here is a video link of a stop motion MTV channel ident used in the 80's. The intended audience would be younger age ranges, particularly targeted at boys because the objects used in the ident include a dinosaur, police officers, army tanks etc.
As well as this, the intended audience may be younger age ranges because it's like a cartoon. The shapes and objects are fairly simple, such as the clouds and sky haven't got any detail. Therefore, it would suggest that a younger target audience would need to be able to easily identify the objects in the ident in order for it to be successful.
